When Capital One and Major League Baseball launched the inaugural MLB Open, they needed more than a trophy — they needed a way to define a brand-new moment. A tournament where baseball meets golf for the first time. Bennett partnered to translate that idea into a single, cohesive form — bringing both sports together in a way that feels natural, intentional, and unmistakably unified.
The Story
The sculpture was designed so a nickel-plated golf ball cutout fits precisely within the baseball's "hide." A multi-tiered walnut base, inspired by the wood species and engraving of a baseball bat, anchors the piece. This perpetual trophy was built to gain meaning over time. Every detail—from contrasting metal finishes to laser etching—was intentional, bringing the two sports together in a cohesive and beautiful form.
